EARTH DAY 2022 - #INVESTINOURPLANET

Today is Earth Day, and this year’s theme is “Invest In Our Planet”.

At Manupackaging we believe our “Natural Passion for Protection” motto no longer only describe our long-standing position in the plastic packaging market both nationally and globally – instead, we now believe it additionally describes our passion of embracing nature and protecting our environment as vigilantly as our products protect our customer’s goods.

Not only are we using more sustainable materials to make our products and refining them to be thinner and stronger in a bid to reduce consumption, but we are looking at new ways of becoming more involved in the handling of waste to increase recycled volumes and reduce waste to landfill.

This has already been the case for our colleagues over in Germany, who have since received recognition for their work towards increasing recycling and reducing CO2 emissions as a result.

Participating in a scheme called ERDE, Manupackaging Deutschland GmbH have contributed to offsetting over 35,000 tons of greenhouse gases in 2021 as a result of the responsible collection of over 32,500 tons of used agricultural plastics being recycled into new products; this volume of gases is the equivalent to that absorbed by over 2.5 million trees annually.

At Manupackaging UK, we are currently looking at concepts that can create “closed loop recycling” systems by working in greater partnership with our customers, not only in agriculture, but in all industries. We have worked to reduce their consumption through optimised products already, but we know this is still creating waste that is not always correctly handled – so the next problem we are working to solve is how can we handle that more vigilantly, and how can we make it of benefit primarily to the environment, then the customer, then Manupackaging in terms of reducing waste to landfill, improved recycled product manufacture and future reductions in Plastic Packaging Tax.
